A WORLD BETWEEN EMPIRES
In 476 AD, the Western Roman Empire fell. From its ashes rose a new people, a new kingdom, and a new world. The Merovingian dynasty—named for the legendary Merovech—would forge the first kingdom of the Franks and lay the foundations for what would become France, Germany, and the medieval world.
For nearly three centuries, these warrior-kings ruled a realm caught between the glory of Rome and the dawn of Charlemagne's empire. Their story is one of brutal conquest and miraculous conversions, of savage politics and sacred relics, of queens who wielded power and saints who changed the course of history.
